A diverse range of regional and international bands thrilled fans after the first round of the 20th Commercial Bank Qatar Masters on Thursday evening.
Atlantic Soul Orchestra, one of the UK’s top soul bands; Miami Band, a popular Kuwaiti group with several number one hits; and Sheyaab, one of Kuwait's favourite 'Arabs Got Talent' bands, all entertained fans at the tournament's Public Village after play finished.
Atlantic Soul Orchestra are performing at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters for three straight evenings and will be joined again by Sheyaab on Friday and by Adam Baluch on Saturday.
The Atlantic Soul Orchestra have made their name as the UK’s most authentic soul band, playing the very best of Stax and Atlantic soul music from the 1960s. The band are comprised of London’s session elite, who have toured with or recorded with the likes of Sir Elton John, Alicia Keys, Take That, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson, Beverly Knight, Basement Jaxx, Lily Allen and Girls Aloud.
Sheyaab is a touring comedy troupe that won over the hearts of judges and fans on the reality show Arabs Got Talent. With the help of makeup, the trio appear elderly during their performances, playing various musical instruments while singing and dancing. The three young students continue to conceal their real identities and go by their alter ego names Romeo, Mirshiego and Alijandro.
Also hailing from Kuwait, Miami Band is a four-member group founded in 1991, with number one hits and albums to their name. Their music is a fusion of revived traditional Kuwaiti songs and their own modern songs.
Friday’s second-round action starts at 6.30am, with the last groups teeing off at 12.20pm. Play is scheduled to finish by 5.00pm.
