As we’d mentioned on our Facebook page back in November the former world number one tennis player Juan Carlos Ferrero and Sergio Garcia will form a new partnership when Garcia defends his title at the Thailand Golf Championship.
The world number seven had his girlfriend Katharina Boehm carry his bag for him when he won the Thailand Golf Championship last year so the eyes of the golfing world will be on how these two will work with each other.
“Juan Carlos is one of my best friends who loves golf and is a very good player himself. He’s a three-handicapper and obviously knows what he’s doing.
Garcia has confirmed his appearance at the 2015 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2015 so whether it’ll be Ferrero or Boehm caddying for him is up for debate:
“It’s nice for him (Ferrero) to get some experience this week but I know my girlfriend wants to be back on the bag sometime so you’ll see her again,” said Garcia on the eve of the Thailand Golf Championship.
This January Garcia won the $2.5M prize money and lifted the Mother of Pearl Trophy after his dramatic playoff victory. Garcia sank seven birdies in a sizzling seven-under-par 65 on Saturday to set the clubhouse lead at 16-under, a target Mikko Ilonen matched with a long putt at the last. With the crowds energised by a sudden-death showdown, Garcia had a makeable eagle chance to win on the first hole of the playoff, but narrowly missed.
On the second playoff hole, it was Ilonen who was putting to win, although Garcia’s bunker shot that finished one foot from the flag and secured his own birdie was one of the shots of the tournament. The Spaniard finally clinched victory on the third playoff hole, which he birdied with a tap-in second putt after Ilonen could only manage par.
