Santos Posts Clubhouse Lead, Garcia in the Hunt

Portuguese Golfer Opens with a 7-under, 65

Ricardo Santos, last year's Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, continued his excellent start to 2013 by claiming the clubhouse lead on day one of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

The Portuguese player, 28th in Durban and fourth in Abu Dhabi, had eight birdies and a solitary bogey in his seven-under-par 65 at Doha Golf Club after teeing off at 7.45am.

That was one ahead of Scotland's Pete Whiteford and England's Anthony Wall, with Australian Brett Rumford and Wall's compatriots Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan on five under.

Santos was playing behind a star-studded group featuring Sergio Garcia (69), defending champion Paul Lawrie (72) and 2005 winner Ernie Els (72), the current Open Champion.
