The Al Jazeera team of Spanish pro Pablo Larrazabal made their own headlines by winning today's Pro-Am, the traditional curtain raiser for the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy.
With Larrazabal at the helm, amateur partners David Foster, Victoria Helson and Mike Hanna shrugged off the desert shamal to come home in a stunning 27-under par at Doha Golf Club.
It was more than enough to see them home in first place four shots ahead of runners-up Dolphin Energy – led by Larrazabal’s fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia – featuring Nick Baker, Walid Al Attar and Maurizio La Noce (-23). In third place was the Qatar Gas team of Katsumi Aoki, Keiichi Kadowaki and Ishiro Muro with Scottish pro and former Open Champion Paul Lawrie on 22 under par.
Despite the swirling winds, the Pro-Am proved once again to be a popular part of the week-long event with the winners of the 33-team competition collecting their trophies at the Pro-Am Gala Dinner at The Four Seasons Hotel Doha tonight (Feb 1).
